ANNE-MAREIKE HESS is based in Luxembourg and Berlin and works as a choreographer and performer in the field of contemporary dance. In 2018 she founded the independent structure utopic productions, which receives funding from the Ministry of Culture in Luxembourg since 2020.
Since the beginning of her choreographic career, Anne-Mareike’s works have been presented at numerous venues and festivals across Europe and Canada. This includes a.o.: I believe that we are having a dialogue (2012), Tanzwut (2014), Synchronization in process (2016) and Give me a reason to feel (2017 commissioned by the Théâtre d’Esch and the Grand Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg).
In 2018, she premiered her first evening-length solo WARRIOR, selected by Aerowaves Twenty20. WARRIOR marks the beginning of the trilogy On Fighting, Dreaming, and Weaving, in which Anne-Mareike explores and challenges stereotypical ideas of femininity, strength, and vulnerability. The trilogy continued with the solo DREAMER (2021) and concluded with the trio WEAVER (2023).
Anne-Mareike is currently developing the solo creation in the air, premiering in November 2026 at Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, and the trio SOTURIT, commissioned by Dance Theatre Minimi (Kuopio, Finland), which expands her solo WARRIOR into a collective exploration of strength and vulnerability and will premiere in March 2026.

...the luxembourgish dancer and choreographer is one of the artists who, through her presence, instantly fills the whole space and captivates the spectator. (...) the proof that the radiant emittance of strength has nothing to do with pomp and sensationalism.
Christine Mandy for Journal
There are some artists whose next creation we expect frenziedly. The luxembourgish dancer and choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess is one of them. Because we love her exigent work that is without concession.
