With in the air, choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess and her team propose a dance solo that navigates the fragile space between emotional numbness and the deep human desire to feel alive. In a society marked by overstimulation and exhaustion, the work asks: how can we still feel touched, deeply moved and resonate with others?

A solitary figure ventures into an artificial landscape, following a quiet longing for lightness and resonance. Her journey unfolds with playful openness as she seeks connection — with herself, with others, with what truly breathes. At times she resembles Narcissus, reaching for the other but meeting only herself; at others, Echo, searching for herself yet caught in reverberations. Will
she find a way out? The quest for lightness becomes a subtle act of resistance — a way to remain permeable in a world that demands hardness.
Anne-Mareike Hess, known for her physically precise and emotionally charged work, has established an artistic language that moves between intensity and vulnerability. Her choreographic works are presented widely across Europe and beyond and often examine the body as a site of resistance, transformation and longing. With in the air, she continues this trajectory by crafting a solo that is at once intimate and expansive.
